Tom is reputed to have a big mouth and to answer to all questions open and honestly. For that reason we tried to find out, whether the guitarrist of Tokio Hotel is willing to give honest answers to so intimate topics like love, friendship or even death. Put your cards on the table!

Tell us first a bid about this new album… Is “Zimmer 483” in your opinion more personal than “Schrei”?

No, I don`t think so. For me both albums are similar, because they are directly inspired by our own life and how we feel about the issues, that happen to us. But anyway the topics we are touch in this album, are different. Since the recording of “Schrei” two years have gone and naturally our sight on things have changed. Some songs of “Zimmer 483” have to do with these two crazy years, we have experienced, with things, we liked, but also with issues, that were annoying for us.
Besides “Zimmer 483” is, seen pure musically, an enormous development for us. Bill`s voice has increased strongly since the first album, what allows him, to express more emotions. And I believe for me, that I have developed as musician.
Through the constant concerts I can strike some special chords much easier, that seemed to me complicated in the past.

Are concerts for you a reason for being frightened or just fun?

A little bid of both and that is exactly what I like. I like the increase of adrenalin before every concert. I can say to me again and again, that this is not the first time and that all will be good – I`m every time in panic.

What happens exactly after the concerts, when you`re back in your loge?

Mostly we start at once to take us time for an assessment of the concert. We analyse, how we played, the way, the audience reacted, but we also talk about mistakes, that we maybe made technically seen.
After that there are always people, who visit us in our loge. That can be fans, but also journalists, people from the record company or members of our family. One thing is for sure – we are never alone! (laughs)

How has your fame changed your connection to people, you don`t know, but who wanna get to know you?

I have to admit, that I became with the success more suspicious to other people, who I don`t know and act like as we would be good friends. It is that way, that most of the people we meet and who try to ingratiade themselves with us, are searching their advantage.
And of course, I don`t talk about the fans, but of those, who wanna profit by our fame. If you`re honest, there is a lot of hypocrisy around us. You have a friendship or not, but you shouldn`t pretend a friendship. I have always thought that and I see no reason, why I should change my opinion.

Your songs deal often with difficult topics and some lyrics go so far, that even death is touched on. Is that on your mind?

It`s always difficult being alive without thinking about death, because these are issues you cannot separate unfortunately. But I am more an optimist and if someone asks me, whether I have already thought about suicide, then my answer is: no.
But, I would like to touch on this topic in one of our songs. A lot of young persons think about it and honestly I cannot imagine, how I could lose so much the love to life.
We all have problems, but if you are able to find the power for going on, then you will be stronger than before.

Do you remember the beginnings as musician?

I remember, that Bill and me were very young, so at the age of six or seven, when we wanted to make music. We looked in TV concerts and had fun to imitate the bands. Then Bill started writing lyrics and I began a short time later with learning how to play guitar. We had luck being always encouraged by our parents; they supported us moraly and financially.
Because my stepfather is also guitarist, he understood our passion for music and our striving for becoming a professional band one day. When we had our first concert, our parents were in the first row and rooted for us. They transported our instruments in their car and sang our songs by heart. They were our first fans and we have to thank them for everything we have reached and where we are today.

How do your parents react about all the rumours that are going around?

At the beginning they called every time, when they had read something about us, at once and asked, whether these rumours are true. But nowadays that happens not so often anymore. They know, that journalist often exaggerate. There are the most craziest things in print, that develop by a small anecdote and are changed so much, that there are just lies left in the end. That`s part of the job and so we nearly don`t pay attention to all the stories they tell about us.

With the release of the second album you will play one concert after the other, what means, that you won`t get enough sleep in the next months. Do you miss anytimes your bed?

If you have decided for this job, you have to accept the small, but necessary troubles like being rare at home. It`s correct, that we have slept in the last weeks more in hotels than in our own beds and that won`t change with the promotion of our new album. Fortunately we have always contact with our families and our closest friends during the tour. That helps us, when we feel some kind of homesickness. But life on tour has also his good sides. We are happy to meet our fans and give concerts all around the world. In the last time we travelled through Europe and it`s simply cool to find out, how our music has crossed the borderlines. It`s worth to stay some nights away from home, when you meet all the fans abroad.

It seems, that you talk very open about making conquests in relation to girls. Are you somebody, who has one one-night-stand after the other?

I have to admit, that I don`t like to have a lasting relationship at the moment. And it wouldn`t be possible with the life in our band. But – contrary to Bill – I don`t feel awful having one-night-stands. On the contrary, it`s very exciting. I`m somebody, who wants to enjoy every moment and who seize the opportunity, when I have one due to a meeting. But that doesn`t mean, that I hunt every skirt, but when I like a girl on a party, then it can happen.

And when you are on stage, in front of you hundreds of girls, who would give everything, to have a moment with you, how is that?

On the contrary to that, what a lot of fans believe, you see from the stage, what happens in the audience. It happens sometimes during a concert, that I recognize a girl in the first row and smile to her discretly. I wanna show her, that I have seen her. If we then meet each other after the show and there is a fire between us, then I can be seduced.

Your look is totally different to the one of your brother, but you can see, as like it is with your brother, that you wanna emphasize with your clothes. Does the style reflect your character?

You could say that. When I let grow my hair some years ago, the boys in my school made jokes about me. Then I let grow my hair all the more, just to show my resistance and that they couldn`t annoy me. Today my dreadlocks are nearly one metre long and I don`t plan to cut them. Sometimes they are a little bid in my way, but I couldn`t imagine at all having a bald head.

You talked about resistance- you way of being a rebell. Do you need that to feel different to others?

I don`t would go so far, but it`s true that I like doing things going beyond over the normal. I like to question established orders, also when I shock sometimes people around me. A little bid provocation never harms and I like to stay like that, honestly.

People talk about you as person who doesn`t reserve judgement and says, what he thinks. If you answer to questions in interviews, do you try to answer honestly or to provocate?

I`m more honest. If somebody asks me a question, I answer simply without talking around the issue. It can happen, that I exaggerate, but just for a good purpose. If we would always say the truth, then interviews would be very boring….
